Version 1

Saving the world one dungeon and Dark Lord at a time

Session 13

Dean (Jared), Matt (Spinter Paw), Mariel (Ragash), Chris (Creeper), Jeff (Ford), and James (Kraygen) are returning cast members.

We left the party recovering from indigestion after eating dragon nuggets. After discussing the location of Wave Echo Cave with Reidoth (between his advice and their map, the group feels confident they can find the entrance), the party went to Neverwinter to sell their goods and equip for an expedition. They sold the alchemical vials, diamonds, a set of goblets, and the battle axe they had collected in Thundertree for 1100gp, which was promptly divided up. The group arranged for a dagger to be made from a dragon’s tooth. The same smith agreed to make a suit of scale mail from the green dragon’s scales, which will be ready in a week. (He barely made the roll, resulting in a suit of scale mail that gives +1 to saving throws versus poison, but no other bonus).

They spent a week on downtime, finding a clue to a magical shortbow. Apparently one “Magpie Hood” is a bandit that lurks in Neverwinter Forest and has a reputation as being a very short and very talented archer. Perhaps he has a magical shortbow the party could somehow acquire for Creeper?

They traveled to Thundertree to ask Reidoth for directions to find Magpie Hood. He told them to look in the hills south of Mount Hotenow towards the center of Neverwinter Wood. There, they found an armed camp, and ambushed a hunting party. The survivors confirmed the camp was led by Magpie Hood; the camp itself was called Hummingbird.

Leaving Ford and Ragash to guard the prisoners, the group approached the camp from the south. Splinter Paw and Kraygen, having remembered a fellow bardic student who sang of a magpie stealing shiny things, recreated the song on the way in. It proved sufficient to get them an audience with the leader of the camp, a halfling who did indeed carry a well-crafted short bow.

A little bit of banter and a drinking contest quickly led into an archery contest. Magpie proved a fine shot, but Creeper was better – this time at least – and Magpie and Creeper traded bows. Magpie was also curious about a bow in Neverwinter, the size of a short bow but with the force of a longbow. Perhaps he will go looking for that device later.

On the way out, Splinter Paw casually mentioned that the group had ambushed one of Hummingbird’s hunting parties on the way in, killing two of them and leaving the rest tied up in their underwear with Ford and Ragash as guards…

To be continued…
