It was the dawn of the third age of mankind, an unknown amount of time after an uncertain event of potential historical significance. The Band of Misfits was a dream given form: their goal, to prevent another war by entering dungeons and preemptively slaughtering the inhabitants for their gold and treasure, in order to fund the eventual construction of vast military strongholds as a place of refuge against the slings and arrows of, well, anyone who brought slings and arrows. They sought to create a port of call, a home away from home for fighters, monks, magic-users, clerics and thieves. Humans and monsters wrapped in a thousand tons of quarried stone and a few pounds of steel armor, all alone in the night, except for the monsters. It might be a dangerous place, if they ever build it, but it's our last, best hope for a sane life after being born in the Bandit Kingdoms. This is the story of the Band of Misfits. The year is 570 CY. The name of the place is... to be determined!
